Hansel and Gretel(1st)

HARD by a great forest dwelt a poor wood-cutter with his wife and his two children. The boy was called Hansel and the girl Gretel. 
큰 숲 옆에서 가난한 나무꾼이 아내와 두 아이들과 함께 살았습니다. 소년의 이름은 헨젤이고 소녀는 그레텔입니다. 

He had little to bite and to break, and once when great dearth fell on the land, he could no longer procure even daily bread. 
그는 깨물거나 부술 것이 거의 없었고, 한 번은 땅에 큰 흉년이 들었을 때 더 이상 일용할 양식조차 구할 수 없었습니다.

Now when he thought over this by night in his bed, and tossed about in his anxiety, he groaned and said to his wife
그는 밤에 침대에서 이 일을 생각하며 불안에 떨며 뒤척이다가 신음하며 아내에게 말했습니다.

"What is to become of us? How are we to feed our poor children, when we no longer have anything even for ourselves?"
우리는 어떻게 될까요? 우리 자신도 더 이상 먹을 것이 없는데, 불쌍한 아이들을 어떻게 먹여 살릴 수 있을까요?"

 "I'll tell you what, husband, " answered the woman, "early tomorrow morning we will take the children out into the forest to where it is the thickest; there we will light a fire for them, and give each of them one more piece of bread, and then we will go to our work and leave them alone. They will not find the way home again, and we shall be rid of them.‟
 "이렇게 하죠, 남편." "내일 아침 일찍 아이들을 데리고 숲이 가장 우거진 곳으로 나가서 거기서 불을 피우고 빵을 한 조각씩 더 주고는 일터로 가서 아이들을 내버려 두겠습니다. 그들은 다시는 집으로 돌아가는 길을 찾지 못할 것이니, 우리는 그들을 제거해야 합니다."
