헨젤과 그레텔 16일 차

 

Ah, how the poor little sister did lament when she had to fetch the water, and how her tears did flow down her cheeks! "Dear God, do help us,‟ she cried.
아, 불쌍한 여동생이 물을 가져와야 할 때 얼마나 한탄했는지, 그리고 그녀의 눈물이 뺨을 타고 흘러내렸는지! "사랑하는 하나님, 우리를 도와주세요." 그녀는 울었습니다.

"If the wild beasts in the forest had but devoured us, we should at any rate have died together."
"숲의 야수들이 우리를 잡아먹었다면, 우리는 어쨌든 함께 죽어야 했습니다."

"Just keep your noise to yourself." said the old woman, "it won't help you at all."
"그냥 혼자 떠들지 마세요." 노파가 말했습니다. "그건 당신에게 전혀 도움이 되지 않을 거예요."

Early in the morning, Gretel had to go out and hang up the cauldron with the water, and light the fire.
이른 아침, 그레텔은 밖으로 나가서 물로 가마솥을 걸고 불을 붙여야 했습니다.

"We will bake first," said the old woman.
"우리가 먼저 굽겠습니다." 노파가 말했습니다.

"I have already heated the oven, and kneaded the dough." She pushed poor Gretel out to the oven, from which flames of fire were already darting.
"저는 이미 오븐을 데워서 반죽을 했습니다."‟ 그녀는 가엾은 그레텔을 오븐으로 밀어냈는데, 그곳에서는 이미 불길이 치솟고 있었습니다.

"Creep in," said the witch, "and see if it is properly heated, so that we can put the bread in.
"기어 들어와." 마녀가 말했습니다.  "그리고 빵을 넣을 수 있도록 그것이 제대로 가열되었는지 확인해 보세요."
