Then a soft voice cried from the parlour
그때 부드러운 목소리가 거실에서 울었습니다

"Nibble, nibble, gnaw, Who is nibbling at my little house?" The children answered
갉아먹고, 갉아먹고, 누가 내 작은 집을 갉아먹고 있습니까 아이들은 이렇게 대답했습니다.

"The wind, the wind,
The heaven-born wind."
and went on eating without disturbing themselves.
바람, 바람,
하늘에서 불어오는 바람, 하늘에서 나는 바람이여.
그리고 그들 자신을 방해하지 않고 식사를 계속했습니다.

Hansel, who liked the taste of the roof, tore down a great piece of it, and Gretel pushed out the whole of one round window-pane, sat down, and enjoyed herself with it.
지붕의 맛을 좋아하는 헨젤은 그것의 훌륭한 조각을 허물었고, 그레텔은 둥근 창유리 하나를 통째로 밀어내고 앉아서 그것으로 즐겼습니다.

Suddenly the door opened, and a woman as old as the hills, who supported herself on crutches, came creeping out. 
갑자기 문이 열렸고, 목발을 짚고 몸을 지탱하고 있던 언덕만큼 나이 많은 여자가 살금살금 걸어나왔습니다.

Hansel and Gretel were so terribly frightened that they let fall what they had in their hands.
헨젤과 그레텔은 너무 끔찍하게 겁에 질려 손에 들고 있던 것을 떨어뜨렸습니다.

The old woman, however, nodded her head, and said. "Oh, you dear children, who has brought you here? do come in, and stay with me. No harm shall happen to you." 
그러나 노파는 고개를 끄덕이며 말했습니다. "오, 사랑하는 아이들아, 누가 너를 여기로 데려왔니? 들어와, 내 옆에 있어줘. 당신에게 해가 되지 않을 것입니다."
